The Toyota Verso 1.6 D-4D will be the first model equipped with an engine supplied by the BMW Group under a contract signed between the two companies two years ago.
“At Toyota, we believe that tackling environmental challenges facing our industry will require more than one approach. Hybrid is at the core of our strategy towards sustainable mobility, but we also see a role for clean diesel in Europe.” said Toyota senior managing officer Didier Leroy.
The new 1.6-liter diesel unit will provide 111 bhp (112.5 PS) and 270 Nm of torque while emitting 119 CO2 g/km. The R&D team at Toyota’s European technical center in Belgium made sure that the new engine will integrate seamlessly with the car, by developing new components for it like engine mounts, a dual-mass flywheel, new gearbox housing as well as a stop/start system.
Production of the Verso 1.6 D-4D will begin in January 2014 at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey’s Adapazari plant, the centre for all Verso manufacturing.
