New Suzuki Concept Cars to Be Unveiled in New York

Suzuki will unveil at the 2011 New York International Auto Show two new concept cars based on the Kizashi model. At the moment, Suzuki are not confirming that one of the two concept cars is based on the Kizashi Sport model, but several reports hint this is likely.

Suzuki claim that one concept car is a stylish and urban sedan propelled by a newly-developed advanced powertrain. Not much is known about the second concept car, but probably it’ll be a show car or a special edition bringing a homage to Suzuki’s motorcycle heritage.

Although in the States the Kizashi didn’t enjoy too much attention, Suzuki still have high hopes to turn things around. The Kizashi is one of the finest affordable sedans in the US and it’s both stylish and sporty, but these two characteristics don't seem to grab anyone’s attention.

Not a word has been said about the engines for the concept cars. The Suzuki Kizashi Sport features a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel-drive. The 2.4 liter inline four-cylinder engine is good for 185 hp at 6,500 rpm and a maximum torque level of 170 lb. ft with the help of a manual transmission. Total weight stands at 3,250 pounds (1,474 kg) and thanks to a manual gearbox the Kizashi Sport is quicker compared to the standard version. It is believed that the concept car’s performance will exceed the Kizashi’s and for a firm confirmation we’ll have to wait until the 2011 New York International Auto Show.

Some rumors say that the Japanese manufacturer is planning to develop a hybrid variant of the Kizashi. Perhaps this is one of the concept cars to be unveiled in New York.
