Having surpassed more than 30,000 examples delivered to date, the Mercedes-Benz Citaro is soon going to be refreshed, as the company announced today it is currently working on a new variant that is to be presented to the general public for the first time in May, followed by a gradual market introduction from the end of 2011.

Daimler revealed that in terms of styling, the new Citaro will be a new development, from the headlamps to the tail lights. Inside, the bus will get brighter interior colors and an uncluttered roof design.

In addition to that, the driver takes his seat in a new, slightly higher cockpit. The instrument cluster meets the requirements of the Association of German Transport Operators (VDV), but is now more airy, considerably more informative and ergonomically exemplary, as the company brags.

“The bestselling Mercedes-Benz Citaro will soon have a successor. And with numerous innovative features for both the interior and exterior, the new Mercedes-Benz Citaro is sure to make urban public transport even more attractive in the future,”
the manufacturer announces in a statement for the press.

The safety concept of the new Citaro is also undergoing enhancements. As a unique feature for urban regular service buses, there is also frontal impact protection, as well as an even more rigid body structure.

Finally, the new Citaro will adopt the economical and environmentally friendly engines with Blue¬Tec diesel technology in emission classes Euro-5 and EEV from its predecessor.
