Right before its eagerly expected launch in Korea later this month, Hyundai Motor revealed fresh details about its innovative alternative-fuel compact car, the new Ioniq, now available for pre-order in select markets.
The South Korean carmaker has some high hopes for this car because, with its launch, Hyundai aims for the global green car market leader position. The vehicle is based on an entirely new platform and offers three electrified drivetrains, such as the hybrid, plug-in hybrid and an all-electrical version, all in one body type.

The latest official sketches show a striking exterior, with a cutting-edge aerodynamic design. The simple and hand-crafted contours amplify the Ioniq’s coupe silhouette and minimize wind resistance for greater efficiency.

The Hyundai signature can be seen all over the front end of the car, starting with the hexagonal grille and the blue and white colors that blend with the headlamps, featuring “C”- position lights, to visually depict the Ioniq as an eco-friendly car.

The interior is characterized by a smooth, elegant and uncluttered design with a futuristic perspective and a somewhat efficient use of interior space. All the materials used are “green” and apparently offer a warm ambiance to the entire cabin.

Recently, a Hyundai official has stated that the new vehicle will be better than the Toyota Prius, particularly in the highway mpg sector, because of a “one-motor, one-clutch technology” that is different from any other carmaker.

While Hyundai is very excited about the Ioniq’s launch, specialists draw attention to the fact that the company has to do better in terms of alternative drivetrains because, until now, the South Korean carmaker hasn’t been committed enough and its EV and Hybrid vehicles’ performance was far behind its competitors.

To be praised, though, is Hyundai’s ambition, because since 2012, when it released the first details of a concept that featured a smaller gasoline engine and an electric motor, the South Korean company never stopped believing in its dream of becoming a leader in the green car market.

The Ioniq is expected to be revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show and the New York Auto Show in March 2016, after its world premiere in South Korea later this month.
