Some people say that these cars aren’t real coupes, but the European market has always enjoyed a good three-door hatchback no with a slightly sporty attitude. In terms of style, the Astra GTC is probably the car to beat, but there’s no shortage of contenders.
Hyundai’s answer comes in the form of the i30 3-Door. Its boring name doesn’t quite describe the excellent job the Korean automaker did with the styling of this model.
Compared to the regular i30, this car has a new sporty-looking grille and beefed up panels from the A-pillar back. We’re quite impressed with the look of the headlights and the Veloster-like rims.
About the only thing letting this car down at the moment is the engine range, which includes 1.4-liter and 1.6-liter diesel and gasoline units with outputs from 90 to 128 PS. There will also be a hot version with a 1.6-liter turbo and somewhere between 180 and 200 horsepower. But what European customers likely want are the powerful 2.0-liter diesels with good economy.
