The MINI United, which will take place at Silverstone, UK, on May 22-24, and will entertain the brand’s fan community with concerts, shows, car races and of course, the MINI inspired by George Harrison will have its place on the central stage.
The MINI will be handed over to Olivia Harrison, George’s wife, which will accept the car in behalf oh the Material World Charitable Foundation, a charity set up by George Harrison in 1973. The one-off MINI model will be auctioned in aid of the Foundation later this year.
“George was a huge MINI fan and he would have enjoyed creating this new version. The fact that MINI’s anniversary celebrations will also benefit our Foundation has made it an enjoyable as well as meaningful collaboration.” says Olivia Harrison.
What makes this model special and what’s the history behind, you may wonder. It’s a must know for any Beatles fan throughout the world that back in 1966, the band’s manager, Brian Epstein, gave each of the four members a MINI Cooper S as a gift.
Lead guitarist George was the one that made history with his own , having it painted with psychedelic images such as yantras and Sanskrit mantras. The new George Harrison MINI keeps the original line, as it was designed according to the wishes of the famous artist’s wife.
At MINI United, Replay denim brand will also present an anniversary jeans model to congratulate MINI for its birthday. The jeans will be available in limited edition, and will have a circular “50 Years of MINI’ sew-on badge on the front left pocket. All the MINI staff will wear the Replay jeans, while several Replay stores will promote the event in special window displays.
