Until Marchionne's merry men come up with a way to turn rumors of RWD sedan into a product people can and want to buy, the "real" Alfa Romeo models remain the MiTo supermini and Giulietta compact.
Both still have a keen look, but are getting on in the years and need constant updates to keep up with newer modes. The latest was announced today in Italy.

Starting with smallest of the bunch, the MiTo receives a 140 PS version of the 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo, combined as standard with TCT (a double clutch gearbox). With this combo, the car takes 8.1 seconds to reach 100 km/h and has a top speed of 209 km/h. Fuel economy is good: 5.4 l/100km combined, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 124 g/km. Prices start at a hefty €21,100, since the engine is only available with the top Distinctive trim level.

Next up, the 2014 Giulietta gets a 2.0-liter JDTM turbodiesel, also available only with TCT gearbox. It makes 175 PS and peak torque is 350 Nm, allowing the Giulietta to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 219 km/h. Average fuel consumption is even better: 4.4 l/100km, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 116 g/km.
