The smallest crossover/SUV in the current Mercedes-Benz range is a couple of weeks from hitting the first showrooms in Europe, with the US version to arrive in the fall.
Based on the MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform, the GLA shares its engine lineup, much of its interior and its wheelbase with the A-Class, B-Class and the sexy CLA.

In other words, it's the fourth but not final member of the new Mercedes-Benz compact family (the Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake arrives this year, ed).

While its optional off-road suspension doesn't become available until the summer arrives, the model's first official press drive took place without it last week, in Spain.

Among the media outlets invited to the event were also the folks from Road and Track, who came back rather impressed with a number of things from the new GLA, with its unexpected off-road prowess and interior space being two of them.

Another good remark about the car is the fact that it's much more practical than the CLA, mostly thanks to its more ample headroom and its rear hatch, but you will have to read their entire first drive review for their opinions in full.
