New Ducati Diavel Teased Ahead of EICMA 2010

Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati confirmed today its very much anticipated Diavel model will be making its first public appearance at the EICMA International Motorcycle Show in Milan on November 2-7, 2010.

The new power cruiser model is revealed to us today through an official image that shows the rear end of the bike, leaving us imagining how mean the bike will look overall.

The Diavel designation means ‘devil’ in the local Bolognese dialect, and was born in the early development process of the bike, when the prototype was assembled and wheeled out in front of a group of Ducati engineers and technicians for the first time. According to Ducati, one person looking from the rear of the bike saw its silhouette and exclaimed in Bolognese dialect: “Ignurànt comm’ al diavel!” Meaning: “Evil, like the devil!”

“Officially announcing the new model’s name ahead of the official presentation, the famous Italian manufacturer is about to turn another dream into reality, using the local Bolognese dialect word for “devil” in naming their new model Diavel – pronounced Dee-ah-vel,” Ducati brags in a statement. "Reminiscent of how the “Monster” was named 20 years ago, the Diavel is now destined to follow the same Bolognese tradition, shaping the future of motorcycling while staying faithful to its heritage."

The new Diavel will come with a host of technology features including ABS, Ducati Traction Control and Ducati Riding Modes, while being powered by the Superbike-derived Testastretta 11° engine and weighing 207 kg (456 lbs). This, in fact, is the same power unit that propels last year’s hit model, the Ducati Multistrada 1200.

Using the same red paint as all the bikes in Ducati’s range, the Diavel also gets a central racing stripe down the tank and tail. The image also reveals a key entry for the trunk under the tail, with the taillights extending past the tail section that also work as turn signals. The devilish look is rounded off by the carbon tank.
