Natacha Gachnang Eyes F1 Seat with Campos

Danica Patrick may not be considering a switch to Formula One any time soon, being that several NASCAR teams are rumored to court her for a racing seat in 2010, but that isn't to mean the Great Circle will not benefit from the presence of a female driver any time soon.

Regardless of how the future Formula One Championship will look like – given the ongoing political crisis, we seem pretty far from taking the 2010 season for granted – Sebastien Buemi's female cousin Natacha Gachnang announced she is eyeing an F1 seat for the near future.

Although she didn't say when she plans to make her F1 debut, Gachnang revealed a future test with F1 newcomers Campos Grand Prix is “very possible”. The 21-year old Swiss driver is currently racing in Max Mosley's F2 Championship, a competition designed to challenge GP2 for the role of feeder series for Formula One.

Gachnang revealed, in an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, that she held a series of preliminary talks with Adrian Campos for a potential collaboration. Campos is no stranger to the young female driver, as the two used to team up in the Spanish F3 Champiosnhip in the past.

“He believes in me after we spent time together in the Spanish championship of F3,” admitted Gachnang, according to the aforementioned source.

No less than 5 women have so far competed in Formula One, but only two of them managed to actually qualify for a Grand Prix race. Italian driver Maria Teresa de Filippis made 3 starts between 1958 and 1959, while Lella Lombardi made 12 starts and scored 0.5 points in the mid 1970s.

The last women to try an qualify for a Formula One race was Giovanna Amati, in 1992.
