JC France, grandson of Bill France, founder of NASCAR and son of Grand Am founder, Jim France, has been arrested on Wednesday evening for drunk driving and drug related charges, according to a report by news-journalonline.com. France was arrested together with his housemate, Russell Van Richmond, who was also charged with threatening a female officer.
The two were stopped by police for racing over the Seabreeze Bridge in Daytona Beach. Reports say France was driving a Lamborghini and Richmond a Porsche Cayenne. Once stopped, police found both France and Richmond were driving under the influence and more, they were in possession of cocaine.
The two have been arrested separately, but apparently, the most uncooperative of the two was Richmond, who also happens to be the son of one of Jim France's wives.
"Oh no you're not. Do you know who I am?" he reportedly asked the officer who asked him to take a DUI test. "I am a France. Do you know what that means? We own this city," Richmond continued.
As said, they were both charged with DUI and possession of cocaine, while Richmond was also charged with possession of hydrocodone and threat by corruption of a public official. They were released on bail yesterday afternoon, France on $4,500 and Richmond on $10,500.
NASCAR reacted promptly and issued a statement saying JC France will be suspended from all competitions.
“JC France was arrested last night in Daytona Beach, Fl, for driving under the influence. He was also charged for possession of cocaine. JC is a driver in Grand American Road Racing series. Grand Am has issued a penalty notice and suspended JC indefinitely from all competition for actions detrimental to racing. The penalty is not appealable. JC is being treated like any other competitor. His suspension is immediate and indefinite,” NASCAR said in a statement.
