The 420 hp V8 version of the Audi R8 just got A LOT wilder, thanks to the German tuner Motoren Technik Mayer (MTM), who supercharged the engine and threw away the Quattro four wheel drive system, leaving the rear axle in charge of the increased power.

The 4.2 liter V8 unit has been supercharged to produce 560 hp at 7,750 rpm and 580 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. The power is sent to the road via a bespoke rear wheel drive system that features a limited slip differential. The tuner says that this is the only rear wheel drive street legal Audi and that the project has been inspired by the DTM and GT Audi racing cars.

The MTM Audi R8 GT3-2 leaves the first hundred behind in 3.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 317 km/h (197 mph). The dynamic performance is matched by the vehicle’s sound, which is as threatening as you can get, thanks to the use of a free-flow exhaust system.

To cope with the extra power, the car has received an MTM suspension kit, which allows the driver to use multiple settings in order to be suitable for both road and track driving. The R8 was also fitted with an MTM braking system that uses 380x4 mm drilled and ventilated discs. It rides on 20 inch MTM forged wheels and touches the road via Dunlop Sport Maxx GT or Michelin Cup Sport tires.

The supercar’s exterior now features an aerodynamic package, consisting of a carbon fiber front spoiler, side skirt and a generous rear wing.
