It was a good day in Pinal County, Arizona the other day, especially for motorists that happened to be driving on and nearby I-10. That’s because during a police chase involving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer that was caught speeding, the suspects started throwing bales of marijuana out the window. And yes, we do mean BALES!
The whole thing was rather interesting and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Department released a video showing the most interesting bits on Youtube just the other day. As you probably imagine, they were focused on the moments the two suspects were trying to get rid of the evidence.

What went wrong?

Well, you’d think that when you’re transporting huge amounts of illegal drugs, you’d be more careful about the way you drive and you’d make all the possible efforts to keep yourself in check. It didn’t work that way in this case.

Mistake number 1: speeding.

It all started when a deputy noticed the white SUV going over the speed limit on March 4, 2015 at around 11:45 AM. He then signaled the car to pull over but since there were hundreds of pounds of cannabis inside the car, understandably the driver didn’t want to get caught.

Mistake number 2: they tried outrunning the police

Unless you’re in a movie, you should know that you probably won’t get away. The chances of losing the cops are not the same as those you’re used to from Need for Speed games. In real life, they will get you and it’s better if you don’t resist. You might even get shot. Just saying...

Mistake number 3: they wanted to get rid of the evidence.

Mario Perez-Paz, 43 and Juan Aguilar-Zavala, 21, decided that they should stick to their movie-inspired plan and try to get rid of the evidence. Since they already tried to lose the cops, why not give this plan a try too?

Therefore, they tried to get rid of the bales of marijuana they had in the car. If, let’s say, they had up to a kilo (2 pounds) they might’ve got away with it when maybe one of the cops following wasn’t paying attention. The problem is, they had about 200 kilos (440 lbs) to lose. That amount would surely be noticed even by a blind man that was sitting in the passenger seat!

As you can see in the video, the only result this had was that the motorists that were fortunate enough to be nearby that day, got some recreational drugs for their afternoon.

According to the police, the officers managed to recover some 170 kg (374 lbs) but there was plenty more that went missing and couldn’t be retrieved.

"During the entire length of the pursuit, bales of marijuana were being thrown from the vehicle onto I-10," said a PCSO release. "Four or five vehicles not involved with the transportation of the marijuana even stopped and grabbed bales, which neither deputies nor DPS were able to recover due to traffic conditions."

The suspects were ultimately apprehended after running over a spike strip and taken into custody. They claimed that someone paid them $1,000 bucks to drive the car to I-8 to pick up some packages. Well, if you're as stupid as to take that offer, maybe you deserve some jail time...
