Mosley: "I Would Have Easily Won in October!"

Although confirming his stepping down from his position as president of the FIA in October this year - following an 18-year period at the helm of international motor racing - 69-year old Max Mosley insisted he would have easily won the election next month had he decided to continue as head of the ruling body.

However, he pointed out that he would have renounced to run for a new mandate regardless of the FIA-FOTA political crisis earlier this year, as his age doesn't allow him to continue fighting for the FIA causes. In addition, having to fight the same people over and over again has made him reconsider his position within the FIA.

“I know the feeling and that's why retirement will be a big relief. The work is absolutely non-stop and I always feel I haven't really done what I should've done. And I am tired of the battling. It's more or less, in different guises, the same problems with the same people and you're never going to finish,” said Mosley in an interview with British newspaper The Guardian.

“At a certain point it's time to stop. I think the FIA members would re-elect me if I stood but I am getting too old. You've only got a limited amount of time left before you drop off - and do you really want to spend it solving other people's problems?” added the FIA president.

Also, Mosley said he feels the teams didn't quite get his message on lowering the level of costs in Formula One, as he's convinced the current policy in F1, despite being focused on cutting costs, will not do to safeguarding the future of the Great Circle (financially speaking).

“The gravity has not really registered with the teams. I've pointed out that, if they're allied to a big car manufacturer, they can literally get a fax in the morning with a P45 to follow. But they don't believe it and it's extraordinary how they fought tooth and nail to keep the costs near the current levels,” concluded the 69-year old Englishman.
