Morgan Introduces EvaGT Four-Seater Coupe

The British sportscar maker Morgan is introducing the EvaGT, a four-seater coupe that has been inspired from the UK’s early 1950s sport saloons. The grand tourer uses a modified version of the aluminum chassis featured on the Aero Supersports model. The chassis, which is also shared with Morgan’s GT3 race cars complies with both European and US safety standards.

Mixing Morgan’s manufacture tradition with modern design software, the car’s body parts are design and manufactured with the help of computers and then finished by hand. The car uses aluminum body panels with a laminate internal safety structure. The vehicle features advanced aerodynamics, using elements that deflect air over its surface, including minimal shut lines, hidden wipers, flush door handles and sharp creases.

At the heart of the British GT we find a BMW 3 liter straight six engine that uses mono twin turbo and direct injection technologies to develop 306 hp and a maximum torque of 295 lb-ft, or 400 Nm (this is the unit that powers BMW’s -35i models).

The powerplant can be matted to a six speed automatic gearbox or to a six speed manual transmission and sends its power to the rear wheels and returns a fuel consumption figure of 7 liters/100km (combined cycle). The engine pushes the 1,250 kg car (2755 lbs) to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds and offers it a top speed of 170 mph (273 km/h).

The Morgan EvaGT will make its debut at the 60th Pebble Beach Concours d-Elegance, which will be held in California on August 15. The vehicle will have a limited production, with the first 100 units being scheduled to be built in the second half of 2012.

Even though Morgan has not released the pricing for the grand tourer yet, the company announced that it is accepting pre orders, with a 5,000 pounds deposit required.

"The dynamic team at Morgan has made a commitment from 2010 that they will bring out a new model every two years. The legendary sports car manufacturer will target new niches…..electric sports cars, a fun weekend vehicle and the first of the new cars will be the Morgan EvaGT, a four seater Coupe aimed at young families, with a bit of drama or automotive theatre as we like to call it," stated the press release, showing the company's future plans.
