MobileMill Is World’s First Deployable Energy Maker Designed for Disaster Sites

Imagine a climate disaster suddenly takes over the city you live in. Power lines drop, gas stations are ruined and all access on site is hours away. Having a minimal power source would be the first thing the survivors would need to try to recover from the first impact and start rebuilding the remaining.

Created by WindStream Technologies, the MobileMill is presented as the first of its kind renewable energy powered Command Center for first responders. It’s great advantage is the impressive time from onsite setup to action, with a 60 second deployment time of 4KW of renewable energy. The command center generates energy using wind, solar, gen set (diesel generator) and grid (if available). Meanwhile it is able to continuously charge a 18KW battery array providing continuous power to a command center environment.

Possibly the world’s fist renewable energy trailer, the MobileMill was developed at the request of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security. It appears the device is clearly superior to other energy harvesting units by combining both solar and wind generation into an integrated device. The trailer itself is made of stainless steel and aluminum and can be attached to any vehicle.

Like we said, it’s able to transport, power and charge a full control center containing computers and radios, powering the emergency services for up to three days on renenwable energy. The engineers were that thoughtful they designed the energy-trailer so that the storage system charges even during its transport.

As to the company making these puppies, WindStream Technologies, Inc. was established in 2008 “with the goal of designing, prototyping and manufacturing affordable and scalable renewable energy technologies for a global marketplace.” Still no word on how much a trailer would cost, but we’ll let you know once we find out.
