MINI Develops Special Edition Highgate Convertible

British carmaker MINI is looking into ways to continue its infinite series of limited edition models, sources familiar with the matter hinting that a brand new Highgate flavor is currently in the works. As usual, only a few things are known at this point, but MotoringFile writes that the special edition convertible could be baptized Highgate and is very likely to be developed by MINI Yours, the in-house division responsible for fitting MINI models with exclusive and more expensive features.

To be sure the upcoming model will adopt the same trend as its predecessors, MINI wants to equip the Highgate edition with unique exterior and interior equipment, including a special paint called Ice Chocolate Metallic. In addition, the cabin will be customized with leather painted in Chocolate with contrasting white stitching.

Among the features to be offered on the new special edition MINI, it’s worth mentioning automatic climate control, on-board computer, Bluetooth with USB audio, fog lamps, and a sports leather steering wheel.

There’s no official word on this, but rumors suggest the Highgate convertible could be released in the next few months to be sold as 2012 model year. Pricing for the vehicle is likely to be unveiled during the Frankfurt Auto Show next month.

MINI Hampton edition, the previous project developed by MINI Yours engineers, was released in early 2011 and is already available in several European markets, including in the United Kingdom. Pricing begins at 20,360 British pounds for the Cooper Hampton and goes as high as 23,185 pounds for the Cooper SD Clubman Hampton.

Standard features include automatic climate control, on-board computer, Bluetooth with USB Audio, fog lamps, a sports leather steering wheel, a light package and a storage pack. Other highlights include exclusive 17-inch Twin Spoke alloy wheels with centre caps incorporating a Damson Red lining (wheels in Silver or Black), Bi-Xenon headlights with black interior reflectors and MINI 50 Hampton badging.
