The British car brand seems to have prepared a strong offensive for this spring, aimed at showing the entire automotive world it really means business. After earlier today we brought you the most powerful diesel engine in the line-up, namely the MINI Cooper SD, we are now presenting you with the latest addition in the John Cooper Works retrofit range.
Specifically, the new John Cooper Works Tuning Kit has been launched to fit the MINI Cooper S, MINI Cooper S Clubman or MINI Cooper S Convertible.
The kit includes a model-specific sports silencer with chrome tailpipes, which optimises the exhaust gas discharge and gives the engine sound a particularly sporting note, and is compatible with all models with manual gearbox produced since March 2010. Rest assured, the car’s warranty will remain unaffected.
Other highlights of the newly released package include the 18-inch Cross Spoke Red Stripe light-alloy wheels. The black wheel features the innovative addition of a red trim strip on the wheel rim. According to MINI, the color tone is identical to the red of the painted John Cooper Works brake callipers.
Performance wise, the maximum output of the four-cylinder unit rises to 200 hp at 5,700 rpm and to a maximum torque of 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) between 1,250 and 5,000 rpm. This can be raised to as much as 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) between 1,800 and 5,000 rpm courtesy of the Overboost function. This means that the MINI Cooper S can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 234 km/h (145 mph).
The John Cooper Works Tuning Kit for the MINI Cooper S will made its official public debut at the Geneva Auto Show this March.
