Last summer, Grey's owner was one of the lucky millionaire yachting lovers who got to kick off the season onboard a freshly launched, bespoke superyacht. That must have been super exciting, for a while. It didn't take long before the magnificent Tankoa yacht's owner started dreaming about an even bigger floating mansion. And, when you have the money for it, every dream must become reality. That's how the stunning Grey superyacht ended up on the market just a few months after its debut and was snatched at lightning speed, finding itself under new ownership in less than one year.
Grey was one of the most thrilling launches in May of 2023. It was only the fifth unit in the Tankoa Yachts S501 series, and, at the same time, it was in a league of its own. Born as a heavily customized version for its experienced owner, Grey was a lot different than the other units in the series. It was designed by the world-famous Francesco Paszkowski, who had to follow very clear instructions from the owner, and was built at the brand's luxurious shipyard in Genoa, Italy. Giorgio Cassetta of Cassetta Yacht Designers was in charge of the vessel's opulent, highly sophisticated interiors.
The most impressive feature on board Grey is, by far, the outdoor entertainment setup on the foredeck, with a huge swimming pool and an equally big home cinema screen right in front of it. Most yachts are fitted with a swimming pool on the sundeck. Grey took a different route – it features a jacuzzi on the flybridge and a pool in the bow, which is a very unusual placement. The addition of the outdoor home cinema screen and the top-of-the-line sound system by Focal & Naim turned the entire foredeck into a jaw-dropping, ultra-luxurious entertainment sanctuary.
The Grey superyacht is also equipped for lavish accommodation, boasting six suites for up to 12 guests. Two of these suites are fully customized and located on the main deck. Multiple fold-out balconies and sleek glass bulwarks enhance the indoor/outdoor flow throughout the yacht. A 50-meter (164 feet) behemoth, Grey was also specifically designed with a shallow draft and beam so that it could make its way easily into the Bahamas and the Mediterranean.
According to the broker, Grey's owner decided to let it go because he was already planning his next floating luxury toy that would be even bigger. Even though he only got to enjoy the brand-new Grey for one season, keep in mind that it takes around two years to have a custom superyacht built for you. The multiple-yacht owner had been involved in this Tankoa project since 2021, which was plenty of time to start being tempted by other projects.
In the end, the ultra-luxurious 2023 Tankoa yacht was sold for somewhere around $40 million (the last known asking price). A different millionaire will get to chill in the swimming pool while watching a game on that huge cinema screen on the way to a fabulous destination in the Bahamas.
