With the current crew chief for the No. 6 Nationwide Roush Fenway Racing team, Ben Leslie moving to become competition director, Mike Kelley has been put in charge with both the No. 6 car and its driver, Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Kelley was until recently crew chief for Carl Edwards, with whom he has been a pair for the last three races of the 2009 season, with Edwards managing one win, two top-fives and three top-10s.
Leslie has been appointed crew chief for rookie Stenhouse in December last year and, as said, will now take charge of Roush's four Nationwide teams as director of competition
"I am really excited about this new deal," Kelley was quoted as saying by NASCAR. "Ricky has a lot of talent so I'm looking forward to working with him. I missed working on top of the box with a single group of guys."
"The other role I was doing [competition director] is very important and I enjoyed it but I missed the camaraderie of working with one group of guys. It's a whole fresh start for me now."
"Mike Kelley brings a lot of experience and enthusiasm to the team and I plan on learning as much as I can from him," added Stenhouse. "We had a good run at Phoenix last week finishing ninth, but the first five races were pretty rough. I'm still new here so I put my faith in Jack [Roush] and Roush Fenway's management team when it comes to these kinds of decisions."
