Michael Self to Race in the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Series West

Taking the jump straight from karting to the big boys league, 19-year old Michael Self announced his decision to enter the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Series West, under the Mike Naake/Motorway Motorsports banner. Self thus put an end to the speculation that he will be driving open wheel vehicles.

About a year and a half ago I decided I wanted to go the opposite way of go kart racing,” Self said. “I wanted to race NASCAR, even though I already had connections and scholarships for racing open wheels cars. When I was little and lived in Alabama, watching NASCAR was a big part of my life.”

Self will be driving a Chevrolet in his first big racing series for the entire duration of the season. In addition, he will also run Western Late Model, Super Late Model, and Stockcar Racing League events.

"Getting the opportunity to run the West Series full-time is unreal," Self said. "I never would've dreamed that I would make it even this far, but now that I have the opportunity, I'll give it everything I can and devote every bit of my life to it."

"Working with Mike Naake and Motorway Motorsports has been one of the best racing decisions I've ever made. Everything they do is beyond professional and top-notch. There's not a doubt in my mind that we have one of the most knowledgeable and capable teams at the racetrack."

The 2010 NASCAR Camping World Series West, the top western regional stockcar series, opens on January 29-30 with the Toyota All-Star Showdown held at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, California.

After that, Self will take his car at the All American Speedway in Roseville, California, on March 27.
