Mia Electric Vehicles to Be Powered by EVida

German and French electric vehicle manufacturer Mia Electric announced today that its three new vehicle models will use EVida’s 8 kWh battery packs until 2016. The agreement, worth over $250 million, will see EVida supply up to 10,000 units per year to power Mia’s vehicles.

The line-up includes a zero-emission three and four-seater Mia town car (named Mia and Mia L), and an utility vehicle which features a 1,500-litre cargo volume.

“We appointed EVida based on their ability to provide a flexible, low-cost and high quality battery pack solution tailored to the characteristics of our individual models, coupled with access to unrivalled expertise and a high-level of durability for our customers,” explained Laurent Buffeteau, Managing Director of Mia Electric.

The EVida 8 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack will provide a range of between 80 and 90 km (50 and 56 miles) per charge in urban cycle, and can be fully recharged in less than three hours when connected to a standard 220V power supply. The battery pack can also be fast charged with a 10-minutes rapid-charge providing an extra 8 km (5 miles) of range.

“The agreement represents a significant milestone in the realization of Evida's vision, and is a testimony to our ‘whole vehicle view’ philosophy in which our technology has been specifically designed in line with the needs of our client, and more importantly this is a solution which is economically viable and sustainable for Mia Electric going forward,” stated Jonathan Shine, EVida’s Co-Founder and VP of Business Development.

A pre-sale process of Mia’s vehicles has already been initiated in France and Germany, with deliveries set to begin from June 1, 2011.
