Mercedes Want Schumacher Regardless of F1 Spot

Mercedes-Benz are playing big this week, as the signing of Nico Rosberg, the first German driver to compete for the Stuttgart based marque in over 5 decades – is not the only major thing the Brackley based team has been preparing for the 2010 season. It seems the German company wants Michael Schumacher at any cost, no matter if we're talking about a racing seat or a managing role.

Schumacher used to work with Ross Brawn back in his Benetton and Ferrari days, which would make for a great team at Brackley. On the other hand, even if the German would not consider coming back to the F1 cockpit in 2010, he would still be of great interest to Daimler AG, as he's German and he's 7-time world champion of Formula One.

Therefore, an ambassador role for the German marque would be perfect, especially after the constant scandals Mercedes-Benz has been part of – as a partner of McLaren F1 Team – during the past few years. Restoring that image is also top priority to the Stuttgart officials, which is why they're planning to “steal” Schu from Ferrari by any means possible.

According to British newspaper The Mirror, what Norbert Haug and Ross Brawn are prepared to offer Schu is not only a driving role within their organization, but also “management or as a roving ambassador and advisor.”

As for the constant allegations during the past few days regarding Schumacher's potential return to racing in a Silver Arrows-prepared F1 car, it was again Ross Brawn to play down the rumors, insisting that his former employee and friend – with whom he is speaking every once in a while – has no plans to return to racing for a full-time campaign.
