Eddie Jordan Reveals Schumacher-Mercedes Talks in Abu Dhabi

Although Mercedes' motorsport director Norbert Haug denied it plenty of times during the last weekend, the projected Michael Schumacher move to Brawn GP/Silver Arrows seems to still make the headlines in the UK. And it was really a single declaration from Haug that started the whole madness, as he told the media they might “be surprised” with the team's lineup for the 2010 season.

While quickly dismissing the Schumacher allegations – and calling them dreams that won't come true – Haug was contradicted by former team boss Eddie Jordan. Currently an F1 pundit for formula One broadcasters BBC, Jordan revealed that the Schumacher rumors are as true as one can imagine and that the German is even considering to put an end to his Ferrari deal.

I believe it is going to happen. It started with a meeting between Michael, Ross Brawn and Daimler chief executive Dieter Zetsche at the Abu Dhabi GP. At the moment, Michael cannot drive for Mercedes because he has a consultancy contract with Ferrari,” Jordan was quoted as saying to British tabloid The Sun.

But I understand he was due to meet Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo with a view to being released. Michael likes the idea of driving a Mercedes run by Ross. It's a mouth-watering idea,” added the former team boss.

We bet it's mouth-watering, but are inclined not to believe it. Not only Schumacher is nowadays identified with the very image of Ferrari in motor racing, but the Italian is on an ongoing contract with the Scuderia which he just signed earlier this year. While the company's CEO Luca di Montezemolo is fighting hard to secure him a 3rd car with Ferrari for 2010, it's unlikely that he'll just let go of his most important F1 player to rivals Mercedes.

There would be two things that could drive Schu to take the Brackley way: one would be re-joining with former colleague and friend Ross Brawn, and second driving a car for countrymen Mercedes for the first time in career. Whether he'll find it worthy of crushing the hearts of tens of millions of Ferrari fans out there for a quick last stint in F1 we'll find out soon enough.
