Mercedes Travego, Coach of the Year 2010...

...and we don't mean football coach. Busworld Kortrijk, the European coach and bus jury has decided to award Mercedes' third generation Travego the title of Coach of the Year 2010, after being tested against other four competitors in the famous (for the bus and coach industry) Coach Euro Test.

"All three generations of our flagship coach have been market trendsetters in their own right. Even as early as 1999, the Travego already featured an electronic brake system (EBS), anti-lock brake system (ABS), acceleration skid control (ASR) and an auxiliary brake as standard," Hartmut Schick, Daimler Buses chief said in a release.

The Travego competed against the Neoplan Cityliner, Barbi Maestro, Van Hool Altano and Plaxton Elite, and it apparently set itself apart through a few innovations and the addition of several safety enhancement technologies. The Travego was chosen after it passed, with flying colors, test regarding its economic efficiency, environmental acceptability, handling, comfort and safety.

"The Safety Coach includes all currently available safety features. Therefore in addition to the Active Brake Assist active safety system, it is also equipped as standard with the Front Collision Guard passive safety system. Active Brake Assist actively helps to avoid rear-end collisions, or at
least to reduce the severity of an accident,
" Holger Suffel, EvoBus head of sales added.

"The third generation of the coach witnessed the world premiere of Active Brake Assist (ABA) – also known as Emergency Brake Assist. With every Safety Coach on the road we are helping to enhance road safety and as a result to save lives," Hartmut Schick concluded.
