Mercedes SLS AMG Drifting Video Released

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a machine that certainly doesn’t need any marketing, as the vehicle is a masterpiece that speaks for itself. However, Mercedes decided to create a new spot centered on the SLS anyway, and we are happy to present it to you.

The video shows the supercar during a drifting session on a wet circle track located in Germany, at the Mercedes-Benz World. The vehicle is being manhandled by Ed Redfern, a Mercedes-Benz senior stunt driver. The man just likes to take sideways “laps” of the track, explaining that the steering wheel should be handled extremely gently and that the vehicle is actually being driven with the feet.

Classical music was the audio weapon of choice for the video’s soundtrack, with the drifting seeming a gentle, delicate process. However, the drivers spins the vehicle at a certain time, with the video emphasizing this.

We’ll remind you that the SLS AMG is powered by a naturally aspirated 6,208 cc V8 unit that delivers 571 hp at 6,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 480 lb-ft (651 Nm) at 4,750 Nm. The powerplant is mated to a seven-speed double clutch DCT automatic transmission. It pushes the 3,571 lbs (1,620 kg) vehicle to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 197 mph (31 km/h).

You can relax and enjoy one minute and 24 seconds of SLS sideways action below. However, we can’t guarantee that you won’t feel the urge to have some rear-wheel-drive fun yourself after that...
