Better looking, more powerful, but also a whole lot more efficient thanks to the cylinder-deactivation system, the new SLK 55 AMG is quite the pocket rocket, and now the drop-top has arrived in Britain, sporting a price tag of £54,950 OTR.
This car is all engine, a 5.5-liter V8 with 421 normally aspirated horsepower and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque. This is coupled with a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC PLUS.
The standard sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) takes 4.6 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).
And it’s not exactly a stripped down roadster, as the SLK 55 AMG packs Nappa leather upholstery, 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and a DAB sound system.
The two options boxes you really need to tick if you can stretch the finances are the £4,105 AMG Performance Package, with stiffer suspension a rear diff lock, and the £2,755 Driver’s Package that removes your limiter.
