The tuners have already had a go at it, and it’s recently received cylinder deactivation for the SLK55 version, so it’s easy to look at the Mercedes’ two-seater drop-top as a relatively uninteresting car.
Porsche has a new Boxster coming next year, and by the looks of things, it’s the best one ever. But for prestige and presence, the SLK is still a worthy contender, and the latest image gallery for the 250 and 350 versions prove this to be true.
We’ll remind you that the SLK also has a frugal little 2.1-liter diesel engine for the 250 CDI version, which produces 204 horsepower and 500Nm (368.8 lb-ft) of peak torque. Despite the hothatch levels of grunt, it’s still able to accelerate to 100km/h (62mph) in 6.7 seconds, accelerate from 80 to 120km/h in 4.3 seconds, and reach a top speed of 243 km/h (151mph).
The petrol 250 is powered by a 1.8-iter with the same power that’s slightly faster and serves as a base model.
For more images and some in-deapth analysis of the car, check out our testdrive with the SLK350.
