Mercedes Grows 17 Percent in July

The seventh month of 2010 proved to be another success for German manufacturer Mercedes, who posted a 17 percent increase in sales, or a total of 97,700 units sold. This is the ninth consecutive month in which Mercedes posts a double digit increase in sales.

This mean that since the beginning of the year, the total number of new Mercedes vehicles which have found new owners reached 654,400 units , an increase of 16 percent compared to the same timeframe last year.

“Our sales figures continue to rise - after a successful first half of the year, the second half has now also begun extremely well with a high growth rate,” Joachim Schmidt, Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales and Marketing vice president said in a release.

Needless to say, the increase in sales was fueled in July by the Chinese market, the same which for month now drags, percentage wise, almost the entire German automotive industry to new peaks. July was Mercedes-Benz's best month in China, with 14,600 passenger vehicle being sold here representing a 205 percent jump.

From the volume stand point, Western Europe accounted for more than half of the new Mercedes vehicles being sold, or 47,100 units.

The best selling models in the lineup remain the E- and S-Klasse, with 19,200 and 5,500 units respectively being sold. smart keeps losing ground though, posting a 20 percent decrease to 8,400 units.

“Starting this fall, a range of attractive new models will join the E- and S-Class to provide us with additional momentum,”
predicts Schmidt.

“The new generation of the R-Class, for example, has met with a very good customer response, and the thoroughly updated CL will ideally supplement our lineup in the luxury segment.”
