Mercedes GP Unveils New MGP W02

There are less than 24 hours before the official testing debut for the 2011 Formula 1 season, and the teams that are to tackle the first group test in Valencia with their new cars are showing it to the world via media events or pics on the Internet.

After the first shot of Mercedes' W02 car was seen in a German magazine over the weekend, the Brackley based team disclosed an official image of its new challenger on their media website. What we get to see here is however a computerized image of the MGP 02, as the first peek of how the car really looks like will happen on Tuesday.

If we are to trust from the computerized elements of the car, the MGP W02's livery will feature a bit more green, courtesy of the team's official sponsor Petronas, while the silver somehow changes shade as compared to last season.

Moving on to more important issues, the new car features a higher nose design, which seems to become a trend for the 2011 campaign, as Ferrari and Team Lotus have also unveiled similar designs themselves.

There are still no statements available from the Mercedes GP official, but we're expecting reactions to the MGP W02 photo during the course of the day.

Mercedes GP have switched focus on the development of their new car ever since midway last season, when team boss Ross Brawn realized the W01 challenger was not going to make any championship statements in 2010. Nico Rosberg will be the first driver to give the MGP W02 some track time on Tuesday, after which Michael Schumacher will take over on February 2nd.
