Mercedes GP to Debut Double Diffuser in Bahrain

Mercedes GP will apparently not lay down all their cards prior to the season opening round in Bahrain. If the majority of the F1 teams have already debuted several aerodynamic and mechanical features for the season to come, team boss Ross Brawn insisted his team will only fit the double diffuser to the W01 during the first race of the season.

As the Italian journalists from Gazzetta dello Sport noticed that the Brackley based team is yet to unveil the design of their rear diffuser at Barcelona, they've asked Brawn to tell them when that will happen.

At the first grand prix in Bahrain,” answered Brawn, who also revealed that he is not at all troubled with his car's medium level of performance in the first 3 tests of the off-season.

We can't yet say whether this car is a winner, but we know it's not bad. We've had a few small problems, but in Jerez, despite the bad weather, there have been improvements already, in the sense that the team has made progress in the process of understanding the car and the tires,” added the Englishman.

Nevertheless, Mercedes are expected to debut a new aerodynamic package starting the Friday testing session at Barcelona, with Michael Schumacher being the first to drive the newly improved car.

In other news, it has emerged that the team's CEO Nick Fry has stepped down from the Brackley team's board immediately after Mercedes and Aabar have purchased the organization in November 2009. While keeping his CEO position within the team, he will only have an observer role within the board from now on (for the first time since 2002).
