German brand Mercedes-Benz has just announced a new trim level for the GLK range that will be powered by a 2.1-liter diesel engine developing 136 horsepower. The new 200 CDI BlueEfficiency configuration will actually serve as the entry-level version and will represent the most efficient model in the whole GLK lineup.
If we are to trust the official estimated figures posted by Mercedes, the new GLK equipped with the 2.1-liter diesel engine achieves a fuel consumption rating of 5.8 l/100km (40.5 mpg) in combined cycle and equipped with a manual transmission. Figures are slightly different if equipped with an automatic tranny, as they go up to 6.2 l/100km (37.9 mpg).
Seen as a direct competitor of the Infinity EX, Acura RDX, BMW X3 and the Audi Q5, the GLK Klasse comprises four engines, two diesels and two petrols, as it follows: 220 CD 4Matic, 320 CD 4Matic, 280 4Matic and 350 4Matic, respectively. The latter also represents the top of the range version, developing 272 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a torque of 350 Nm between 2400 and 5000 rpm.
In terms of performance, it pushes the car to a maximum speed of 230 km/h (143 mph), while going from a naught to sixty in just 6.7 seconds. Fuel consumption is pretty surprising for such a powerful powerplant, as official figures are indicating 22.6 mpg (10.4 l/100km) in combined cycle.
The GLK range is codenamed X204 and is built in Bremen (Germany), Mexico and Brazil. The design follows the same cues as the GL-Klasse, despite the fact that the car itself is based on the C-Klasse platform.
