Mercedes Deny Interest in Brawn GP Stake

Despite Brawn GP's immense success in the 2009 Formula One Championship – in its first half anyway – German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz have denied the latest rumors regarding buying into the Brackley based outfit. According to a spokesman from the German marque, McLaren will continue to be their works team in Formula One in 2010.

It's our policy not to comment on rumours and we want to point out that we have longstanding contracts with McLaren,” the spokesman said on Monday.

Mercedes' statement comes only hours after Great Britain's The Daily Telegraph reported the German car maker have decided to become more involved in the former Honda outfit. Whether that means buying a stake in the Brawn GP – in addition to their 40% stake in McLaren Team – or signing a new multi-year engine deal with Ross Brawn's team, we're yet to find out.

The same publication reported that Mercedes are ready to agree to a free engine supply towards Brawn GP in exchange of the BGP001 – and its successors – to be fitted with the three-point star race in and race out. That information was also denied by the Mercedes spokesman.

As far as Brawn GP are concerned, the Brackley based team seem to have already secured their future in the sport. Apart from their share of revenues for the ongoing season – it will be a large one, nonetheless, considering they are currently leading the championship with 5 races to go – it seems the team has also secured a number of sponsorship agreements for 2010.

As announced by Nick Fry during the course of last month, all the announcements regarding Brawn GP's partners for the next season will be disclosed to the media in early 2010.

We've signed some nice contracts and those will come out into the open when we launch the car next year,” said Fry.
