Mercedes Confirms DTM Lineup for 2010

Some couple of months after Audi, Mercedes-Benz has today confirmed its full drivers' lineup for the 2010 season of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM). As expected, it has now become official that former Grand Prix driver David Coulthard will do a full-time programme with Merc this year, while followed by Chinese rising star Franky Cheng.

The rumors about DC making his DTM debut in 2010 started appearing in the British and German media from as early as December 2009, but nothing had been inked until earlier this month. On Easter Day, the Mercedes motorsport director Norbert Haug announced the deal, but only today that was marked as official on DTM's entry list.

From last year's lineup, only Mathias Lauda “has left the building” (sort of speak), as he will no longer drive for the German manufacturer in 2010. Jamie Green and Susie Stoddart will pair up alongside Cheng for Persson Mercedes, while DC will join Maro Engel at Mucke. All these 5 drivers will compete on one-year old C-Klasse machines in 2010.

David Coulthard will certainly be the focus of the audience when he returns to racing in the DTM. David is one of the most distinguished and worldwide best-known drivers, who is not only competent but also extremely charismatic. Franky Cheng is a promising Chinese driver who gets a chance for more success,” said Haug.

As far as Merc's works lineup is concerned, it will once again be comprised of British drivers Paul di Resta and Gary Paffett (also test drivers in F1 for Force India and McLaren respectively), while joined by Canadian driver Bruno Spengler and Ralf Schumacher.
