Besides its more practical uses, a warranty is truly invaluable for the peace of mind it offers to the vehicle owner. Knowing that should something terrible happen to the car’s engine, transmission or other major components, the owner won’t have to pay a dime is a great feeling to have.
Warranty is becoming more and more important these days, especially since cars have an increasingly steady longer life. In fact, a recently conducted study shows that the average service life for a vehicle on German roads has now risen to nine years. Whether that’s down to the financial crisis and people’s reluctance to change their cars so often or the fact that cars simply don’t become obsolete that fast anymore is absolutely irrelevant from the insurer’s perspective.

The thing is, the older a car gets, the more likely the possibility it will require maintenance increases, so the ability to insure a car after the standard warranty expires should be very well received by owners of used cars as well as those who are just purchasing a new vehicle.

In the case of Mercedes-Benz and Smart cars, their owners will be able to extend the warranty - or sign up for a new one, if the vehicle is pre-owned - every year until the cars reach the tenth year of their lives. This service will become available in early 2016 and will be provided by Daimler’s newly established Mercedes-Benz Versicherung AG. The important thing to note is that the warranty is tied to a specific vehicle and continues even if the owner changes.

Because warranty products strengthen the ties between customers and dealers, we want to offer such products from our own brand in the future,” says Dr. Ingo Telschow, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Daimler Insurance Services GmbH. “This way, we can ensure that any repairs that become necessary are made with genuine spare parts from Daimler.

The warranty insurance will be sold by Mercedes-Benz Bank and also still be brokered by CarGarantie GmbH.
