Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 Customer Teams Test Drives Coming

Mercedes-Benz announced that it will offer test drives of the SLS AMG GT3 with customer teams at the next VLN endurance championship races, which are scheduled to be held on October 16 and 30.

We are talking about four-hour events that will offer the opportunity to perform new testing sessions that will help with the future development of the gullwing racer.

The reason for the test drive races is the fact that the German company plans to offer an optimized vehicle for private teams that order the SLS AMG for the 2011 season. Two private teams will be invited to take part in the events.

Mamerow Racing and Black Falcon will be present on the starting grid of each event. Both teams want to use the 2011 gullwing in the next VLN season. The first vehicle will be driven by Bernd Schneider (46) and Christian Mamerow (25), while the second one will be shared by Thomas Jager (33) and Christopher Haase (23). The teams will also receive support for any technical problems that might arise during the races.

At the first race in which it took part on 25 September 2010, the SLS AMG GT3 was able to put its potential to the test. Despite an accident in the first lap and a necessary break for repairs, the gullwing was still easily able to hold its own among the field of GT3 vehicles,” stated the press release, describing the vehicle's racetrack debut.

We’ll remind you that the SLS AMG GT3 comes with a price tag of EUR334,000/ $436,500 (EUR397,460/ $519,374 with VAT included).
