It's not everyday that we publish a test drive with an AMG model, albeit looking at the current lineup of the wizards from Affalterbach you would think we can drive a different AMG every couple of weeks or so for an entire year.
If you think we're exaggerating you might want to think again, because Mercedes-AMG currently comprises of no less than 30 models, which are soon to become 32 after the launch of the S 65 AMG W222 and the GLA 45 AMG.

They have everything from the WRC-style A 45 AMG with a turbocharged four-banger to the G 65 AMG V12 brute, while the SLS AMG ED (Electric Drive, not Erectile Dysfunction) is currently the world's most powerful production electric car.

Among these over two dozen models there is a version for just about any performance vehicle fan. For the AMG roadster lovers with enough bank to actually afford one, the choice is a bit more limited though, with only three models currently available.

The “entry-level” AMG roadster is the SLK 55 AMG, while the other two consist of the SL 63 AMG – in which we recently had a go - and the SL 65 AMG.

To start off with the conclusion may be a bit unreasonable for some, but we loved the car so much that we couldn't help it.

Yes, the Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG (R231) is among the best cars tested by autoevolution since we first started the test drive section back in 2008.

We can't pin point the exact reason, but the model's multipurpose nature was most likely among the top reasons for falling with this car.

The SL 63 AMG has the freedom given by a convertible, the style of a coupe, the performance offered by a force-fed V8 and the comfort of the highly-acclaimed Active Body Control suspension. If you want to read the entire review you might as well check out our test drive section.
