As some of you know, despite having an awesome year in 2013, Mercedes-Benz is still in third place in terms of global luxury car sales behind Audi and BMW.
They lost first place back in 2005 to BMW, with Audi also passing them in 2011, the year when the three-pointed star vowed to return to their rightful place by the year 2020.

Currently, Mercedes-Benz grows at a higher rate than both its two major competitors, but 2020 is approaching fast and there are some automotive analysts out there who doubt that the Swabians will be able to outsell the Bavarians so soon.

Ola Kallenius, current Executive Vice-President os Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz and ex-CEO of AMG, seems to disagree and comes out as pretty confident. “The Mercedes-Benz brand sold more than 1.4 million vehicles in 2013, setting a record. This year, we want to do more than 1.5 million and more than 1.6 million in 2016. We are bringing out our fourth compact model, the GLA SUV, this year, and the S-class coupe is heading to the starting line in the premium class. But the C class will play the most important role; 2014 is clearly the year of the C class.” he told Automotive News in an interview.
