When it started production back in June 2013, the W222 pushed the benchmarks Mercedes created with the previous W221 S-Class. One of the biggest surprises that came with the all-new generation is the S 500 Plug-In Hybrid, an eco-friendly variant of the breed that's based on the long wheelbase S-Class.
With first British deliveries of the thing due to start in late November, the manufacturer announced that the new S 500 Plug-In Hybrid will hold a starting price of £87,965 on-the-road. What's so special about this variant? For starters, it's exempt from road tax and the London Congestion Charge.

Even though the powertrain employs a V6 biturbo petrol engine (333 horsepower) and an electric motor (116 horsepower) for a total output of 442 ponies and 650 Nm of torque, the Mercedes-Benz S 500 Hybrid can return a maximum of 100.9 mpg and emits just 65 grams of CO2 per kilometer. As for performance, 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) comes in 5.2 seconds, and the car will accelerate up to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

Furthermore, the German manufacturer says that this luxurious plug-in hybrid limo can travel up to 20 miles (32 km) on purely electrical power. Just to name a few highlight standard features, we'll mention the 19-inch AMG alloy wheels and body styling for the front and rear bumpers, as well as the LED intelligent lighting system, leather-laden cabin with front seat memory package, COMAND Online system and noise insulating glass for the most serene and quiet drive you can imagine.
