Officially unveiled earlier today, the Mercedes-Benz GLA 45 AMG has arrived to reinforce the now common idiom “there's no such thing as too little horsepower” in the compact crossover/SUV segment.
First previewed by the Concept GLA 45 AMG at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, the production version of the most powerful GLA sports the same M133 four-cylinder engine that is also handsomely used by the A 45 AMG and the CLA 45 AMG.
No less than 360 hp (355 bhp) and 450 Nm (332 lb ft) of torque are squeezed from the two-liter four-cylinder mill, or just enough to propel the GLA 45 AMG from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.8 seconds, onward to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
This type of performance is also highly usable, since the model is fitted in standard with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive, while the 7.5 liters per 100 km/h (31 mpg) medium fuel consumption also makes it the greenest AMG SUV, if there is such a thing.
All sounds good and everything, but until we have a chance to actually experience the little bugger let's just check out this footage of the car in action, courtesy of the official Mercedes-Benz YouTube channel.
