Mercedes Benz Hires 800 Brazilian Workers

The Brazilian branch of German manufacturer Mercedes Benz announced it will hire some 800 people for its truck and buses production sites in Sao Bernardo do Campo. In addition, the 350 temporary workers now with Mercedes will become full time employees in October, while an extra 160 apprentices will be taken on board.

The announcement can do nothing more than to please those involved or who want to get involved with Mercedes Benz. The hiring also come as a sign that the Brazilian economy, badly struck by the economic crisis, is on a rebound.

"The new contracts demonstrate the confidence of the company in the country's economic recovery after a period of world crisis," Gero Herrmann, Mercedes Benz do Brasil said in a release. According to Mercedes, the main factor contributing to the demand for work force is the fact that the truck and buses sectors of the industry are on a rebound since mid-2009, largely thanks to other industries, like construction and mining.

And Mercedes is not the only one trying to create a fresh start in Brazil. American manufacturer GM recently announced the opening of the Sao Caetano do Sul center, the biggest technical center GM has in Brazil.

South Korean manufacturer Hyundai also announced the opening of a new production facility in Brazil, without naming the site for the location. The announcement is in fact a revival of the one made by Hyundai one year ago. The then made plans were put on hold due to the economic turmoil, but where revived this month by the apparent revival of the economy.
