The three-pointed star vehicle with the longest continuous production in history, the legendary G-Class, received a breath of fresh air in 2012, with the Germans giving it a range of interior, exterior and most of all technical upgrades.
Since sales of the model have increased exponentially in recent years, mostly thanks to expanding markets such as the Middle East and China, the Austrians from Magna decided to give it a newly overhauled production area with increased production capacities.
“With this investment, we are able to respond even more flexibly to the requirements of our valued customer Mercedes-Benz and we have created the basis for supplying high-quality G-Class units for many years to come. The extension of the contract and the positive development of the G-Class are an acknowledgement of our commitment to world-class manufacturing and the excellent performance of our employees in the Graz plant.” said Günther Apfalter, President of Magna Steyr.
Following nearly ten months of planning and preparation, the improved 63,000 square meter production took just five weeks to be completed. It offers an added assembly line and a range of equipment upgrades and new assembly technologies which both improve the flow of assembly and increase the overall production capacity. G-Class for everyone!
