Mercedes Benz E-Klasse Cabrio Details and Photos

Following several sets of spyshots and pieces of information picked up from here and there, we can finally give you the whole story of the new E-Klasse Cabrio, the fourth model in the line, complete with an extensive gallery. Mercedes' newest soft-top, which will go on sale on January 11 (yes, in full winter, we know) comes with a comprehensive line of engines, to say the least.

There will be five versions of the Cabrio, as follows: E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY(150 kW/204 hp), E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY (170 kW/231 hp), E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY (150 kW/204 hp), E 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY (215 kW/292 hp) and the E 500 (285 kW/388 hp).

Being a soft top, one of its most exciting features is the roof itself. The roof can be opened and closed fully automatically within 20 seconds, at speeds of up to 40 km/h.

The car's performances, as well as the comfort of those inside, is insured by the use of Mercedes' AIRCAP automatic draught-stop, a new system which is used to reduce turbulence in the interior. According to Mercedes, one can have a phone conversation, in hands-free mode, at speeds of up to 200 km/h.

The carmaker says the AIRCAP creates "a sea of warm air" inside, by using its two components: a wind deflector that can be extended by around six centimeters with a net in the windscreen frame and a draught-stop between the rear seats.

The soft top comes equipped, in terms of safety and besides the now expected systems like ABS and ESP, with roll-over protection, seven airbags and drowsiness detection.

"Never before have we had such an effective presence with our E-Class model series as we have with today's range. Saloon, Estate, Coupé and Cabriolet all share the same winning gene, yet appeal to our customers in a very individual way. This mixture has been extremely well received by our customers," Joachim Schmidt, Mercedes Benz sales and marketing head said at the launch of the new Cabrio.
