The soft-spot the South American market has for Mercedes-Benz trucks was again felt by the German carmaker in April, when it managed to sell 1,205 units, making April the second-highest monthly volume in its history of heavy-duty truck sales. Since the beginning of the year, the manufacturer sold 4,417 heavy-duty trucks in Brazil, about 90 percent more than in the same period of 2009.
"Brazil's domestic market continues to post rapid growth," Jurgen Ziegler, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil CEO said in a statement.
"That has been evident in a variety of sectors since the beginning of the year. For example, there have been big investments in infrastructure and civil construction, as well as higher transport volumes in the wholesale sector, motivated by increased private consumption and a higher demand for transport capacities in various sectors of the agricultural industry and the beverage trade."
The achievements in Brazil bring Mercedes Benz's worldwide truck sales to 35,338 units in the first quarter of the year. Brazil was the number one market for Mercedes Trucks, followed by Germany, Turkey, and France.
In recognition of the truck maker's achievements of the local market, Brazilian automotive magazine Jornauto awarded Mercedes Benz the "Premio Merito Reconhecido." It's the 27th such trophy awarded to Mercedes Benz.
"This award means a great deal for our brand," says Jurgen Ziegler. "Besides recognizing the quality, technology, and profitability provided by our trucks and buses, it also reflects the satisfaction of freight forwarders with our aftersales service and the expert comprehensive service of our dealership network."
