Back in 2005, BMW overtook Mercedes-Benz for the first time ever in overall luxury car sales, with Audi passing them as well in 2011.
Mercedes-Benz haven't been standing still though, and things have started to heat up in the last couple of years in Stuttgart, with the Swabians vowing to take back their crown until 2020.
If we were to look at the year-to-date sales of 2013, the three-pointed star brand seems to be on the right track, with the percentage in which their sales have evolved until now beating both those of Audi and BMW.
Compared to the same period in 2012, Mercedes-Benz sales have improved by 15 per cent, beating the 7 percent increase at Audi and the 5 per cent at BMW.
If they keep their momentum, the Stuttgarters will have the number one in the premium car sales race in the US at the end of the year, with the only major market were they aren't yet up to speed being China, although they seem to be working on that as well.
