By the looks of it, Mercedes-Benz is going to make it even harder to tell between its C-Class and E-Class models if what this short video suggests becomes reality.
Right now, the Mercedes-Benz sedan range is a bit like a Matryoshka Doll: you start off with the S-Class, you pull it apart to find an almost identical but smaller E-Class, which in turn hides the very similar C-Class. However, apart from the overall dimensions, they still have other design elements that set them apart.
It appears that Mercedes-Benz is thinking about canceling one of them, as a C-Class sedan has been spotted on the streets of Stuttgart wearing what looks like an unmodified E-Class MULTIBEAM LED headlight. With a similar shape and size, the lighting unit proved to be an almost perfect match, with a bit of black duct tape hiding the inevitable gaps.
Mercedes-Benz has had this philosophy of making its more expensive technologies available on lower-grade models after a while, and offering the impressive MULTIBEAM LED headlights on the C-Class would make sense.
We don't see what precious information the engineers could gain from installing the actual E-Class headlights on a C-Class, unless that's exactly what's going to happen on the production vehicle as well come the first facelift. And it does look like it could happen, with only a few minor modifications required to the surrounding body panels (half of which would have probably changed anyway with the facelift).
So, there you have it: no exactly the "stop the press" type of information, but it sure looks like the C-Class will be borrowing the MULTIBEAM LED headlights one way or another from the larger E-Class that was launched at the beginning of this year. The only question now is whether they'll undergo any transformations or will just be grafted as they are on the smaller recipient, enhancing even further the resemblance between the two models.
