The A45 AMG is a car of many firsts - it’s got a turbocharged four-cylinde engine mounted transversally and will deliver its power to the road via all-wheel drive. What’s more, the car will come as a five-door hatchback with luxury fittings.
That recipe sounds expensive, but thankfully it will only cost about £32,000 in the UK, according to AutoCar magazine. Mercedes has been talking the talk for a while now, but what sort of figures will the A45 offer, and will it stack up against its rivals?
The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under its bonnet will reportedly deliver 330 bhp (335 PS) and a "maximum torque significantly above 295lb ft (400Nm)".
This puts it right in between, the BMW M135i hatchback, which has 210 PS (315 bhp), and the Audi RS3 Sportback, which has 335 bhp (340PS). However, let’s not forget that the Audi has five cylinders and the BMW has six, so weight should be on the Merc’s side.
