Mercedes Baby SLS Sportscar New Details

It seems that Mercedes is planning to follow Jaguar’s footsteps on the sportscar market (remember the C-X16 Concept?) and might offer a rival for the new 911, the rumored “baby SLS”. Various unofficial sources reports that the hefty sales registered by the SLS AMG supercar (500 units so far) have opened the gates for a smaller sports car.
The vehicle will be offered as a coupe and, just like in the SLS’ case, a cabrio version is likely to follow later in the production cycle - both will offer a two seat-configuration. Up front, we’ll probably find AMG’s new twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8, which means that we could receive as much as 500 hp, with the power being sent to the rear axle via a twin-clutch seven-speed transmission.

However, we believe that the car is more likely to use the new naturally aspirated version of the engine, which made its debut in the 2012 SLK 55 AMG, as this would make a clear difference between it and the SLS.

The vehicle should be able to juggle performance, offering a top speed of around 184 mph (300 km/h) and a 0 to 62 mph sprint time of four seconds, and efficiency, using eco developments such as stop start, or cylinder deactivation.

The baby SLS is expected to arrive in 2014, with a price tag of around EUR80,000 (a tad over $100,000).
