Melkus has just unveiled a couple of new details regarding its latest creation, the so-called RS2000 expected to go on sale in November this year. Although details regarding the upcoming model are fairly limited at this point, the manufacturer did mention it will limit production of the car at 25 units per year, with pricing yet to be unveiled.
A thing worth mentioning is that the car will feature an unique door system, as the company stated in a press statement, as it incorporates gullwing doors with a few centimeters swinging-out space for exit the tight spaces they are fitted in.
The car is designed by Lutz Fügener and Jens Timmich and weights less than 1,000 pounds (around 454 kilos). Combined with improved aerodynamics, a large front lip spoiler, a rear diffuser and an aluminum chassis, such a low weight contributes to a very high speed likely to be higher than RS 1000's.
The Melkus RS 100 model was a sports car manufactured by the same company that came with a mid-mounted 3-cylinder engine developing around 165 km/h. A more powerful version for racing events was equipped with a sports carburetor produced a maximum of 66 kW (88 hp) and a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph).
Approximately 101 cars were manufactured between 1969 and 1979 in the Dresden production facility, with the new model to be produced in the same factory.
As you can see for yourself, details are fairly limited at this point but the manufacturer promises to provide more information this summer, with a public showing likely to take place in autumn.
