McLaren to Collaborate with FIA, Parts Ways with Dave Ryan

McLaren have accepted the FIA invitation in which they are summoned to appear before the World Motor Sport Council on April 29th to give further explanations on what is now commonly known as “the lie-gate”. The Woking based team have issued a short statement on Tuesday, confirming they will collaborate with the FIA on this matter in any way possible.

McLaren have also officially unveiled the firing of former sporting director Dave Ryan – the official term was “parted ways” – as a result of the Australian GP incident. The team did not release any motives for the firing, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Ryan is believed to be the man responsible for Hamilton's lying to the Australian stewards in the post-race investigation.

During the Aussie GP, Hamilton was instructed from the pits to let Jarno Trulli pass him under safety car. However, during the investigation, the reigning world champion seems to have forgotten that particular conversation. Later, he revealed it was Ryan who told him to elude the truth from the Melbourne officials.

“McLaren acknowledges receipt of an invitation to appear at an FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Paris on April 29, received this afternoon. We undertake to co-operate fully with all WMSC processes, and welcome the opportunity to work with the FIA in the best interests of Formula 1,” said the McLaren statement.

“This afternoon McLaren and its former sporting director, Dave Ryan, have formally parted company. As a result, he is no longer an employee of any of the constituent companies of the McLaren Group,” added the document.

Ryan has been part of the McLaren F1 team since the mid-70s (1974), when he joined the organization as a mechanic. Later on, he was promoted to chief mechanic role and, in 1990, he became the new team manager. Midway through last season, Ryan was named sporting director for the Woking based team.
